Humayun Tomb is situated in Delhi’s Nizamuddin city. This is a memorial from the tomb architecture. This mausoleum is present near the old fort of Delhi. This land used to be in Kilokari fort and the Sultan of Nasiruddin was the capital of Keakub. This main building is the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun and there are tombs for Humayun’s tomb and many other people. This is the first example of Mughal architecture in India.Due to the construction of this tomb, many years after its formation, Shahjahan got the idea of making a Taj Mahal for his wife Mumtaz’s grave. Hence the tomb of Humayun is also called Tajmahal of Delhi. After the death of Humayun, his wife Hamida Bano Begum constructed this tomb in 1562.

Architect of the Building

humayun tombThe architect of this building was Syed Mubarak Ibn Mirak Ghaythuddin and his father Mirak Ghaiyythuddin, who was specially summoned from the city of Herat in Afghanistan. The main building was built in almost eight years and became the first example of the Charbagh style in the Indian subcontinent. Here the first time the red sandstone was used on such a large scale.

Grave of Humayu

The main building in this complex is the tomb of the Mughal emperor Humayun. Apart from Humayun’s grave, the graves of Begum Hamida Bano and the next son of Emperor Shahjahan are Dara Shikoh and many successors Mughal Emperor Alamgir II, Rafi Ud-Daulat, Rafi ul-Darat, Jathedar Shah and Farrukhshikar etc. On 20 January 1556, after the death of Humayun, he was first buried in Delhi and later moved to Sirhind in Punjab in 1558 by Khandahar Bagh. 9 years after the death of Humayun, his Begam Hamida Bano ordered to make this tomb in 1562 in memory of Humayun.

Humayun’s Tomb 1565 72 AD

Humayun Banu Begum, the mournful widow of Humayun, made the emperor Humayun’s tomb. Built before the Taj Mahal, this mausoleum is at a height of 120 meters and its height is 47 meters. The first example of Persian influence in Indian architecture is that within the Mughal family there are more than 100 graves of Mughal family. Due to which was named Dormitory of Mughal’s .This is an early example of the use of red stone and white marble in such a large amount. The small umbrella on the roof was covered with bright blue tapos, and the copper sacp of the white marble dome was only 6 meters high.

Isa Khan Tomb Enclosure 1547 AD

Isa Khan Niyazi was a noble in the court of Sher Shah Sur . This enclosure includes his tomb and a mosque, both built during his own lifetime. the octagonal tomb, pre dating Humayun’s Tomb by only 20 years, has striking ornamentation in the form of canopies, glazed tiles, and lattice screen.along the western aside of the enclosure, the three days wide mosque has a grand red sandstone central bay and striking mihrabs. until the early 20th century, an entire village had been settled in the enclosure .

Humayun Tomb is situated in Delhi’s Nizamuddin city. Humayun’s Tomb lies on the yellow line and the nearest metro station to Humayun’s tomb is Jor Bagh on the yellow line or JLN Stadium on the purple line, depending on which route you are travelling.
